Mechanism of action

How the weight-loss injection works

The active ingredient mimics a hormone naturally produced in the gut that is involved in regulating appetite, satiety and blood sugar.

1

Like one of the body's own hormones

The active ingredient binds to the same receptors as the body's own satiety hormone, thereby mimicking its effect.

2

Hunger & satiety

The stomach empties more slowly, and appetite and satiety change.

3

Once a week

It is injected once a week using a pre-filled pen. The dose is increased gradually to reduce side effects – the doctor decides exactly how.

The process

How we support you

0 to 3 months Getting started

Treatment begins with a low dose. Whether and when it is adjusted is decided by the doctor – depending on tolerability and your check-ins.

3 to 6 months Support

You report in regularly via check-in. The doctor reviews your progress and tolerability and decides whether and how treatment continues.

6 to 12 months Long term

With nutrition and exercise offerings from the Balance programme, you work on habits you can keep up even after treatment.

Medically sound · Human at heart

Sometimes the body needs
a real kick-start.

The weight-loss injection is not a miracle cure but a prescription-only medicine. Whether it is an option for you is decided by a doctor – as a supplement to nutrition and exercise, not a replacement.

When your body works against you

Severe excess weight often has many causes – hormones, metabolism, predisposition and everyday life all interact. A doctor will determine, based on your information, whether medication is an option for you.

Support instead of going it alone

You report in regularly via check-in. The doctor reviews your progress and tolerability, and the Balance programme supports you with nutrition and exercise.

Who is the weight-loss injection an option for?

These medicines are approved for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with at least one weight-related comorbidity – always in addition to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Whether this applies to you is decided by the doctor.

The weight-loss injection is a support, not a substitute.

Medication does not replace changes in everyday life. Medical support, structured nutrition and exercise are all part of it – the Balance programme helps you build habits you can keep up even after treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you should know

Transparency matters to us. Here you'll find answers to the most common questions about the weight-loss injection at AVOLYA.

What is a weight-loss injection?

A prescription-only medicine for weight management that is injected under the skin once a week. There are various approved products. Whether one of them is an option for you, which one and at what dose is decided by the doctor.

Who is the weight-loss injection suitable for?

These medicines are approved for adults with a BMI of 30 or more – or 27 or more with at least one weight-related comorbidity (e.g. high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnoea), in addition to diet and exercise. A doctor checks, based on your questionnaire, whether you meet the requirements and whether there are any contraindications.

Is the weight-loss injection medically safe?

The products are approved in the EU as prescription-only medicines. Like any medicine, they can have side effects and are not suitable for everyone. That's why, at AVOLYA, a licensed doctor reviews your information individually before anything is prescribed.

How is the weight-loss injection used?

The weight-loss injection is injected under the skin once a week using a pre-filled pen – in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. The dose is increased gradually; the doctor decides exactly how. Instructions are included in every pack.

What side effects can occur?

Common side effects are gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting or constipation, especially at the start and after a dose increase. You'll find all possible side effects in the package leaflet. If you experience any symptoms, contact your treating doctor.

How exactly does the AVOLYA programme work?

You fill in our online questionnaire. A licensed doctor reviews your information and decides whether to issue you a prescription. The partner pharmacy delivers your medication to your home with a secure cold chain. For each following month, you complete a check-in, which the doctor reviews again.

How much does the programme cost?

The costs depend on the dosage prescribed by the doctor. You'll see all costs clearly before you order.

Can I stop at any time?

With monthly payment, yes: there's no subscription – each following month is a separate order via check-in. Every month you decide afresh whether you want to continue. The Legacy annual membership, on the other hand, runs for 12 months.

Your medical team

Behind every prescription
is a person.

A prescription is always decided on by a licensed doctor from our team of doctors. We only use an automated preliminary check of your information if you give your separate consent to it – and you can request at any time that a doctor reviews your case instead.
